The Department of Pharmacology was founded in the year of 2016. Since then, the HODs of the department were Dr. Kavita Jaiswal & Dr Sujata Dudhgaonkar respectively. Presently Dr Sujata Dudhgaonkar is working as Professor & Head of the Department.

Vision:

• • To educate, train and empower students to become highly quality educators, practitioners, researchers and scientists through comprehensive inter-disciplinary education and training in pharmacology and pharmacy by adopting CBME pattern of education.
• • To provide safe-effective and high quality patient care in atmosphere of professionalism, responsibility, integrity and accountability, respect and compassion, effective communication, and non-discrimination in building healthy community and healthy nation and nation development. The department would strive for excellence nationally and internationally with respect to education and health care. To try to achieve NABH and NABL standards in health care and AIIMS like standards for faculty development.
• • To develop Institutional Antibiotic policy, antibiotic stewardship program and to implement infection control measures.
• • To ensure availability of VED Drugs and ensure Rationality of their use by doing therapeutic audits
• • To develop Pharmacovigilance awareness and ADR reporting culture amongst health care professionals.

  9. 9) Dept took CME/Workshop on Pharmacovigilance & Ethics in Research.
  10. 10) Public Awareness programme on Hazards of Self-medication.

Education:Education: For 150 UG MBBS students the department imparts student centric teaching learning activities like SDL microteaching, Problem Based Learning, Case Based Learning, Rational Use of Medicine, Rational Fixed Dose combination, Objective Structured Practical Exam, Objective Structured Clinical Exam, P-drug concept, Essential Medicines, Clinical trials, Animal Experimentation, Ethics in Research, Good Clinical Practice Guidelines in research, Legal Importance of prescription writing, Pharmacovigilance & Adverse Drug reaction reporting, Drugs & Cosmetic Act 1940 and Rules 1945, NDPS Act, Drug Schedules, Pregnancy category Drugs, Compliance with medication, Proper Disposal of Medicines. From 2022 till date 6 Post-graduate students have been admitted for MD Pharmacology Postgraduation. Per-Year 5 students can opt for PG course.

Research: The Department encourages UG students for research through ICMR & MUHS funding (STS). Teaching staff is also keenly involved in academic research and publication of their research in national/international journals. The faculties are trained in research methodology, GCP guidelines & Ethics in research.PG students regularly conduct PG activities and thesis related work, medical store activities & therapeutic audit. They are also trained in Advanced & Basic Life support .

Facilities:For UG & PG practical training, department has skilled labs, research labs, Clinical trial unit, museum (Models = 7, Charts = 20, ADR & Scientists Photograph = 50, Drug Samples = 200), Equipments =80, Animal holding area, Smart interactive board, LCD projectors, Laptops, Demo - room accommodating 75 students, Library = 180 book & 3 journals.
