Biochemistry is crucial to understand the functioning of cells at the molecular level .The science is concerned with principles of homeostasis and also on diagnostic modalities in use The Department of Biochemistry endeavours to achieve brilliance in the field of medical education, and diagnostics and medical research
Vision: The department aims to achieve excellent academic facilities, good infrastructure and basic e- governance to develop good competent medical graduates and post graduates. Providing a intriguing learning environment so as to enhance the problem solving skills of the students.
Establishment of new and advanced tools & techniques for Specialised Investigations, Immunology and Molecular Biochemistry in the department in the coming years is the foremost precedence.
The faculty of the department is dedicated to provide excellent educational experience in the course content of Biochemistry at undergraduate and postgraduate level to bring into being knowledgeable, competent, empathetic professionals as per the Curriculum Based Medical education regulations implemented by National Medical commission.
Services:
Central Clinical Laboratory: The laboratory handles routine and emergency (24x7) tests in clinical biochemistry as well as special tests in the field of clinical Enzymology and hormonal assays .The department is equipped with fully automated biochemistry analyzer, semi automated biochemistry analyzers, immuno analyzer and electrolyte analyzer. The department practices effective internal quality control programme and has also enrolled for External quality Assuarance programme.
Education: Competency based medical education (CBME) is implemented to the undergraduates in the form of Self directed learning, Small group discussions and hybrid problem oriented learning along with large group learning sessions and DOAP sessions in the students practical laboratory. Post graduate students are being efficiently trained in fields of Basic Biochemistry, Teaching, Clinical Laboratory and research.
Research: The Department engages actively in research activities in the form of guidance Short-Term Studentship (STS) projects under ICMR. The faculty is also involved in various research projects along with guiding the potgraduate student in the thesis work.
