About Department

The Department of Pharmacology was founded in the year of 2016. Since then, the HODs of the department were Dr. Kavita Jaiswal & Dr Sujata Dudhgaonkar respectively. Presently Dr Sujata Dudhgaonkar is working as Professor & Head of the Department.

  • To develop Institutional Antibiotic policy, antibiotic stewardship program and to implement infection control measures.
  • To ensure availability of VED Drugs and ensure Rationality of their use by doing therapeutic audits.
  • To develop Pharmacovigilance awareness and ADR reporting culture amongst health care professionals.
  • To develop medicine information centers for public.

Education Programs

For 150 UG MBBS students the department imparts student centric teaching learning activities like SDL microteaching, Problem Based Learning, Case Based Learning, Rational Use of Medicine, Rational Fixed Dose combination, Objective Structured Practical Exam, Objective Structured Clinical Exam, P-drug concept, Essential Medicines, Clinical trials, Animal Experimentation, Ethics in Research, Good Clinical Practice Guidelines in research, Legal Importance of prescription writing, Pharmacovigilance & Adverse Drug reaction reporting, Drugs & Cosmetic Act 1940 and Rules 1945, NDPS Act, Drug Schedules, Pregnancy category Drugs, Compliance with medication, Proper Disposal of Medicines. From 2022 till date 6 Post-graduate students have been admitted for MD Pharmacology Postgraduation. Per-Year 5 students can opt for PG course.

Research Activities

The Department encourages UG students for research through ICMR & MUHS funding (STS). Teaching staff is also keenly involved in academic research and publication of their research in national/international journals. The faculties are trained in research methodology, GCP guidelines & Ethics in research. PG students regularly conduct PG activities and thesis related work, medical store activities & therapeutic audit. They are also trained in Advanced & Basic Life support.
