About Department
Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of deleterious mental conditions. These include various matters related to mood, behaviour, cognition, and perceptions. Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community. It is an integral component of health and well-being that underpins our individual and collective abilities to make decisions, build relationships and shape the world we live in. Mental health is a basic human right. And it is crucial to personal, community and socio-economic development.

Vision
Department of Psychiatry not only strives at advancing mental health solutions for our community but also seeks to produce medical graduates who are efficient in providing quality mental health care.
- To produce competent, independent practicing psychiatrists who have the ability to lead interdisciplinary teams in all clinical settings
- To produce psychiatrists that are competent in medication management and multiple types of psychotherapy
- To prepare graduate to be competitive applicants for fellowship and have the opportunity to improve the profession and their community through scholarship, education, advocacy and leadership
